4 Tips for Extending the Lifespan of Your Parking Lot

A parking lot needs to handle potentially hundreds of vehicles every day while withstanding exposure to the outdoors. This can cause all sorts of problems, as the parking lot breaks down over time. However, proper care and regulation can extend the lifespan of your parking lot. Here are some tips to help you extend the lifespan of your parking lot.

Regular Sweeping

Sweeping is one of the basic things you should do every week or two to protect your parking lot. Branches and small debris will build up on your asphalt over time, which speeds up the wear on your lot. Get in the practice of cleaning off all this debris every week or two to help your lot last longer.

Crack Maintenance

Cracks and potholes will form in your asphalt over time, and you should deal with them immediately. Cracks and holes will only get worse and grow in size if you don’t fill them in. Investing in asphalt maintenance equipment to take care of these cracks will save you money and prevent more damage.

Regular Sealcoating

Sealcoating is vital for the care of your parking lot. Water and sunlight can damage your lot, but the coating can protect it. However, this coating wears down with time and use. You’ll want to reapply the sealcoating every other year to prevent damage from exposure.

Regulating Vehicle Access

The purpose of your parking lot is to store and house vehicles, but vehicles put some strain on your lot. You should do what you can to limit vehicle access to prevent those who shouldn’t be there from driving on your lot. Proper signage to limit and control access can reduce traffic and protect your parking lot.

Any of these tips are great for extending your parking lot’s lifespan, but you should do what you can to follow all of these tips. Taking care of your lot can save you a lot of money and potentially add years to the life of your parking lot.
