Outside Variables To Consider When Striping

As an asphalt maintenance business owner, you must provide adequate parking lot repairs that last a long time and leave your client satisfied. Even with the best equipment and skilled employees, other factors influence your effectiveness when working on a project.

These aspects are either out of your control or easily avoided, so it’s essential to know how to handle these situations. Here are three outside variables to consider when striping asphalt.

Surface Condition

Since line striping involves painting directly on the parking lot, the surface on which you work must be in outstanding condition. But what exactly is a quality condition? For starters, damaged asphalt is nearly impossible to stripe on, and it doesn’t make for an appealing finished product.

Before application, ensure the surface is well maintained and remedy any issues hindering your performance. Additionally, give the lot a good sweep, as little things like branches, oil spills, and trash will prevent you from adequately striping.

Inclement Weather

Line striping projects may last for an extra day or two, depending on a few outside factors. These include unforeseen work stoppages and incoming inclement weather. Before beginning a project, research local weather conditions and plan around any potential rainstorms or heat waves.

In the event that you must leave the job site before completion, make sure the lot remains closed to traffic.

Vehicle and Foot Traffic

Some striping tasks focus on select areas of the site, especially for much larger parking lots. Since pedestrians and cars will use the lot congruently with your work, you must prevent vehicle and foot traffic around your workers.

Most obviously, this protects the integrity of drying lines and sealcoating. Additionally, it protects individuals and employees from injuries or worse. A simple way to remedy this hazard is by posting visible signage that informs others of your presence. Simple cones work for this purpose, too.

Staying prepared for the outside variables to consider when striping ensures better results and a happier client. Of course, you still need quality gear to truly accomplish this project. NAC Supply carries top-of-the-line striping equipment for sale that will help boost your performance and efficiency.
