High Performance Alternative to Asphalt Emulsion and Coal Tar Sealers

Whether you think the non-stop calls to ban coal tar sealers are justified or not (we don’t), it’s a good idea to get to know the alternatives. As more towns ban coal tar, you will need to find a replacement sealer for jobs in those areas. In the past, the two choices were Coal Tar, the longer lasting sealer and Asphalt Emulsion, the choice of environmentalists. We’ve sold an asphalt emulsion sealer for the last few years and it’s among the best AE sealers, the problem is that AE sealers just can’t compare to the durability of coal tar and can’t be used in early spring and late fall.

Wouldn’t it be great if they would come out with a durable sealer that could satisfy environmentalists and be used early and late in the season? GemSeal just did—they’ve just introduced Black Diamond, their new, high performance alternative to asphalt emulsion (AE) and coal tar sealers, answering the concerns of both sealers. Black Diamond is the next generation of asphalt sealers, offering the desirable qualities of both AE and Coal Tar sealers.

Features & Benefits—from GemSeal.net

  • Eco friendly--acceptable for use in refined tar restricted areas; may be applied in all states
  • Durable--longer lasting than AE sealers
  • Color stable--eliminates graying issues; will stay black and not fade
  • Fuel resistant--resists gasoline and oil penetration similar to refined tar sealer
  • Tougher--resists power steering marks
  • Water based Low VOC--less than 100 grams per liter
  • Easy to apply--applies as smoothly as refined tar sealers
  • Burn free--crews will love to work with it!
  • Temperature friendly--can be applied in lower temperatures than AE sealers
  • Weatherproof--seals out damaging effects of water and oil, extending the life of asphalt pavement
  • Consistent--manufactured in our precision colloid mill system, which takes the mystery out of mix design

We’ve had a sample patch on a high traffic area in our parking lot and can attest to the durability, it still looks similar to the coal tar sample that was applied at the same time. Black Diamond will be available at all of our yards this season, in 275 gal Totes and 55 gal Drums at nacsupply.com
